Helping you become the Servant God wants you to be! Shortly after publishing his first book, Management Waste: 5 Steps to Clean Up the Mess and Lead With Purpose, Larry O'Donnell began getting requests to write a companion Study Guide for readers to use in their individual and small group study of the book and the Scripture referenced in the book.
After much prayer, research, and drafting, trials with some of the material in Larry's public speaking and teaching, as well as feedback and input from readers and listeners to Larry's weekly podcast, this Study Guide has now become a reality.
‘Management Waste’ Shares 5 Keys to Being a Better Leader
DALLAS, Oct. 13, 2020 – After reaching the pinnacle of leadership in what is typically a top-down world, beloved “Undercover Boss” star Larry O’Donnell shares the secret to his bottom-up leadership style that brought lasting significance and influence. “Management Waste: 5 Steps to Clean up the Mess and Lead with Purpose,” releasing Nov. 24, encourages throwing out the typical leadership model that wastes both time and talent, and embracing a C.L.E.A.N. mindset instead. It is available now for pre-order at Amazon and www.LarryODonnell.com/book.
As the first boss to go undercover in CBS’ hit reality television show in 2010, O’Donnell left an indelible impression, largely for his genuine care and respect for what many might deem the “lowliest” of employees. He will be the first to tell you he wasn’t always like that, but that a tragedy in his personal life early in his career set him on a path to understanding what it truly means to be a servant leader.
O’Donnell shares candidly about his daughter Linley and the mental and physical disabilities she endures as a result of a tragic medical accident when she was only two months old. As a man of faith, he questioned God and came to a greater understanding of his beliefs and the servant leadership style modelled by Jesus. He learned how it should impact every area of our lives – including in the workplace.
As a result, O’Donnell began to look out for the interests of his co-workers and employees, encouraging and empowering them, leading to successful teams working together in harmony, finding creative solutions and “C.L.E.A.N.ing up messes.” This acronym teaches the 5 secrets O’Donnell has discovered that are key to servant leadership: Commitment, Listening, Empathy, Accountability and Notice. He explores each of these in the book, providing real-life and biblical examples for readers to follow.
“I think the opposite of Servant Leadership is Management Waste . . . wasted opportunities, wasted time, wasted gifts, or wasted lives. I think it encompasses all of those when we don’t utilize the leadership principles God has provided to us,” O’Donnell said. “What I learned during my business career showed me what great things can happen when the principles of Servant Leadership are utilized in all our relationships (work, family, friends), and what a waste it is when they are not—Management Waste!”
O’Donnell has received praise for the book from both business and ministry leaders, including fellow “Undercover Boss” Denny Slagle, Retired Executive Vice President, Volvo Group, and Retired President, Mack Trucks, who said, “Larry O’Donnell weaves his inspirational personal story, his successful professional journey and his deep spiritual beliefs to present a compelling case for servant leadership. For those who struggle with how to bring faith to the workplace, here is your handbook.”
Dr. John Tolson, Founder of The Gathering/USA and former Team Chaplain of the Houston Rockets, Houston Astros, Houston Oilers, Orlando Magic and Dallas Cowboys, added: “Larry O’Donnell has taken strategic aim and hit the bull’s eye on servant leadership! Management Waste is a blueprint for personal life development in every aspect and relationship of life.”
Claiming “Management Waste” is a fresh look at God’s design for leadership, Dallas Theological Seminary President Mark Yarbrough concluded, “Through personal and sometimes shocking stories, Larry O’Donnell will challenge you to address your own trash and manage your personal waste!
“Management Waste” is available for pre-order from Amazon and releases widely Nov. 24, 2020. For more information, visit www.larryodonnell.com.
